HOW IT WORKS

How the research paper finder works

01

Search naturally

Use a research question, topic, author name or a few keywords. The research paper finder searches a curated scholarly works index rather than only pages published on Research Today.

02

Read the source abstract

Every displayed result must include a usable source abstract. The Finder shows a clearly labelled excerpt from that abstract rather than trying to infer findings from arbitrary sentences.

03

Verify the original

Use the DOI to open the official research record. Metadata and abstracts can be incomplete, so important conclusions should always be checked against the full paper.

What is a research paper finder?

A research paper finder helps you discover scholarly studies without needing to know an exact paper title or DOI. Search by topic, question, author or keyword to find academic research records from journals, conference proceedings, books and other scholarly publications. Research Today uses OpenAlex scholarly records to help you locate research papers and follow DOI links to the original publisher or official record.

Search scholarly research by topic or question

You can search for broad topics such as artificial intelligence in education, remote work productivity, climate change in South Africa, public health, business, science or society. You can also enter a specific research question. Results show available bibliographic information such as the paper title, authors, publication year, journal or source, publication type and DOI.

Why use Research Today to find academic papers?

The aim is to make research discovery easier to understand. Each displayed result includes a source abstract excerpt so you can inspect what the scholarly record actually says before opening the original paper. It also surfaces relevant Research Today articles so you can move from finding a scholarly paper to understanding related research in plain language.

Research Paper Finder FAQ

Is the Research Today Research Paper Finder free?

Yes. The Finder is free to use and searches scholarly metadata without charging visitors per search.

Does it search only Research Today articles?

No. The scholarly search uses OpenAlex records from a curated global scholarly works index. Related Research Today articles are shown separately when relevant.

Can I open the original research paper?

Where a DOI is available, the Finder links to the DOI record so you can open the publisher or official source. Access to the full paper may depend on the publisher.

Are the abstract excerpts AI generated?

No. The Finder reconstructs and displays source abstract text from the scholarly record. It does not generate a new interpretation of the paper.

Scholarly records are supplied through the OpenAlex API. Results are filtered for usable abstracts, DOI links and identifiable publication sources, then diversified to reduce repeated lead authors. Abstract excerpts are source text, not AI-generated conclusions.
